Social Skills Group
Meaningful community involvement is better assured when social skills of individuals with Autism are improved. Individuals with Autism best learn social skills in a group of their peers. By working with people in social skills groups, people are afforded the opportunity to, not just learn, but practice and hone their social skill development. Doing this in settings that are natural and more representative of where they are likely to have to use them, skill building is more effective.

About PEERS:
- PEERS presents the first evidence-based group treatment program for young adults with ASD, as well as other neurodevelopmental and social challenges. PEERS is utilized as a complete program and each lesson builds upon skills needed for the next lesson. Lessons are based upon ecologically valid social skills known to be used by socially successful people. The techniques used, such as role play demonstrations, behavioral rehearsal exercises, anad homework assignments, have been shown to improve social skills outcomes through research. The effectiveness of this program was developed and evaluated at the UCLA PEERS Clinic, where multiple research trials were conducted with hundreds of participants.
- Engaging, interactive, teaches perspective taking, improves social cognition, teaches ecologically valid social skills, uses role play for deeper learning, and overall, it's fun for participants!!
